Local production of electric vehicles encouraged.
Islamabad: Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Tuesday stated that the electric vehicle (EV) policy would encourage the local industry to develop such vehicles within the country, a news source reported.

Amin Aslam made these remarks while addressing an inter-ministerial meeting on the EV policy, adding that incentives would be offered to the auto-manufacturing sector for local production.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Climate Change and representatives of various ministries, including Ministry of Finance, Engineering Development Board (EDB), Auto Industry Development Committee (AIDC), Pakistan Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (Papaam), and Ministry of Industry and Production were present during the session.

Mr. Amin said that the local manufacturing of electric vehicles would decrease vehicular emissions of pollutants in the transport sector, reduce the cost of fuel imports, and localize the manufacturing of EVs.

The Ministry of Industries and Production was asked to discuss proposed incentives for local producers of EVs with the AIDC, Papaam, and other stakeholders. Following this, they were asked to submit their proposals regarding two and three-wheel vehicles within a week and for four-wheel vehicles within fifteen days.
