SC seeks report on legislation regarding patwaris from the center, provinces.
Islamabad: The Supreme Court recently directed the federal and provincial governments to submit a detailed report on the new legislative measures devised to streamline the workings of patwaris, tehsildars, and Qanoongos — a news source reported. As per the publication, the case was being heard by a three-member bench of the court headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

The counsel for the petitioner said that the Punjab government had enforced the Land Record Act 2017 and that the whole issue was about that province; however, the court had also included Balochistan into writ.

On the occasion, the lawyer representing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government said that new districts had been formed as a result of the merger of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and KP, and now the land records were being computerized. He added that now the public would not have to visit patwarkhanas anymore.
On the occasion, Justice Yahya Afridi recused himself from the bench during the course of the proceedings and will no longer be a part of the case henceforth.
