Sindh master plan authority law draft prepared

The provincial executive has already forwarded the draft for the proposed authority to the law department for vetting. Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah chaired a meeting during which officials of the Local Government (LG) and the planning & development departments presented details on the proposed plan.

The officials told the meeting that there was a requirement for legislation in order to establish the Urban & Regional Master Plan Authority as a separate entity from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).

The CS ordered the LG secretary to submit the draft plan for the authority to the cabinet without further delays.

Discussing the recent incidents of building collapses in Karachi and Sukkur, SBCA Director General (DG) Zaffar Abbas revealed that there were currently 382 dangerous buildings in the old city area of Karachi. He added that they have informed the public through advertisements.

In response, CS Shah directed the SBCA DG to submit a detailed report regarding the 382 dangerous buildings. He also ordered to initiate action against illegal builders according to provisions of the law.
