Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday approved a Multan Development Package worth billions of rupees allocated from the provincial exchequer, a news source reported. As per the publication, he held a meeting in this regard with Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Provincial Minister Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Malik, MNAs, MPAs, and other senior officials from Multan; informing them that he would personally oversee the implementation of the developmental projects initiated through this endowment.

According to Buzdar, the package is expected to resolve sewerage issues and install filtrations plants for clean water supply in the constituencies of assembly members. It will be the Planning & Development (P&D) department’s job to identify which projects to prioritize after reviewing the development package in detail.

The CM told the meeting that assembly members would collaborate on the identification of projects for the next annual development of the coming fiscal year. He added that a bill for the establishment of a mother and child hospital would also be presented before the cabinet soon.

Buzdar further stated that the government would additionally be looking to engage in new projects aimed at improving educational and health facilities in the city and that the Multan-Vehari project would be initiated through a public-private partnership.

CM Buzdar said that the federal government would be requested to help develop special economic zones in the city. He added that steps would also be taken in order to maintain roads in Multan and to complete the southern and northern bypasses.
