Sialkot: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Muhammad Ashraf Malik recently revealed a proposal to develop a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) along the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway — with the project set to fall under the auspices of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) program, a news source reported.

The SCCI president stated that the proposed SEZ would be established on 1000-acres of land and work on the project would begin soon. He added that the planned SEZ would usher in a new era of development and offer employment opportunities to the people of the ‘Golden Economic Triangle’ (Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Gujrat).

President Malik further revealed that the ‘Golden Triangle’ had the highest Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) base of the country; resulting in the employment of millions of people and the highest per capita income in the country.

Ashraf emphasized the significance of the triangle and said that it had been producing high-quality commodities for some time. He also reiterated the SCCI’s commitment to resolving the issues of the city’s business community in a timely manner.
