Govt releases PKR 38.64 bn for CPEC projects development.

Lahore: The federal government recently released a total of PKR 38.64 billion for the development of 31 projects under the auspices of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative; following the completion of the first half of the current fiscal year (FY2019-20) — a news source reported. As per the publication, the government had earlier set aside a fund of PKR 95.73 billion for CPEC this year; of which only a 38.4% figure has been released so far.

According to the report, the government has released the complete amount of funding for the following projects:

  1. Construction of Motorway from Burhan-Hakla on M-1 to Dera Ismail Khan (PKR 11.5 billion)
  2. Improvement and widening of Chitral-Booni-Mastuj-Shandur Road (PKR 1 billion)
  3. Improvement, Upgradation, and Widening of Jaglot-Skardu Road (PKR 3.5 billion)
  4. Lahore-Multan Motorway (M-3 section) of Karachi-Lahore Motorway (PKR 4.5 billion)
  5. Land Acquisition and Resettlement for China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) Islamabad-Raiko Section (phase -I), Havelian-Thakot (PKR 1 billion)
  6. Expansion and up-gradation of NGMS (3G/4G) services and seamless coverage along Karakoram Highway (KKH) in Gilgit-Baltistan (PKR 600 million)
  7. Preliminary design/drawing for up-gradation/rehabilitation of Main Line (ML-I)
  8. Establishment of Dry port near Havelian under CEPC and hiring of design/drawing vetting consultants

Partial funds have been released for the following projects:

  1. PKR 80 million for the establishment of a Project Management Unit on China Pakistan Economic Corridor Industrial Cooperation Development Project
  2. PKR 1.5 billion out of PKR 2 billion allocated for the construction of a 2 Lane Highway from Basima to Khuzdar
  3. PKR 1.15 billion out of PKR 1.93 billion for the construction of the Burhan-Havelian Expressway (E-35)
  4. PKR 1 billion out of PKR 2.4 billion for the construction of KKH Phase-II Havelian-Thakot (118.057 Kms)
  5. PKR 500 million out of PKR 1 billion for the dualization and improvement of existing N-50 from Yark-Sagu-Zhob, including Zhob Bypass (210 kilometers)
  6. PKR 2.801 billion out of PKR 3.5 billion for the Karachi-Lahore Motorway (land acquisition) Sukkur-Hyderabad
  7. PKR 750 million out of PKR 1.5 billion for the land acquisition, affected properties compensation, and relocation of utilities for construction of the Burhan/Hakla to DI Khan Motorway
  8. PKR 1 billion out of PKR 1.9 billion for the Peshawar Karachi Motorway Project’s construction of the Sukkur-Multan section
  9. PKR 3 billion out of PKR 8 billion for the construction of the Zhob to Kuchlak Road
  10. PKR 320 million out of PKR 400 million for the development of 5 MGD RO seawater desalination plants at Gwadar
  11. PKR 640 million out of PKR 1 billion for the development of necessary facilities of freshwater treatment, water supply, and distribution in Gwadar
  12. PKR 90 million out of PKR 2.4 billion for the construction of the Eastbay Expressway
  13. PKR 13.578 million out of PKR 27.156 million for conducting a feasibility study for the construction of breakwaters
  14. PKR 22.674 million out of PKR 425.58 million for the development of a Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute at Gwadar

And funds are yet to be released for the following projects:

  1. Gwadar Smart Environmental and Sanitation System and Landfill
  2. Construction of Cross Border CFC Network (Khunjrab-Gwadar-Karachi) along CPEC Routes (Phase-II)
  3. Nokundi-Mashkhel Road
  4. Mirpur-Mangla-Muzaffarabad-Mansehra Road
  5. Up-gradation of Pakistan Railways existing Main Line (ML-1) and establishment of the dry port near Havelian (2018-22) Phase-1
  6. Peshawar Karachi Motorway Project construction of Sukkur-Multan Section (392 km)
  7. New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) Project
