Karachi: A 105-kilometer-long railway line is expected to be developed from Chorr to Islamkot for transporting coal from Thar to Port Qasim, a news source reported. As per the publication, the decision was made during a meeting held between China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (CPECA) Chairman General (retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa, and Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House.

During the meeting, the establishment of a 1,320-megawatt power plant in Thar Coal Block-VI under the CPEC initiative was also discussed. Bajwa further told the chief minister that Chinese President Xi Jinping was expected to visit Pakistan between May and June.

Sindh Chief Minister said there were three projects in Sindh that were carried out under the CPEC framework. These initiatives – Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), China Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Dhabeji, and Keti Bandar – were already approved, he added. The chief minister said that only the financial mechanism of the said projects remained pending.
