Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) of the city’s West District to clear its overdue water bills, according to news sources.

The court issued these instructions while hearing a plea on the matter of water supply suspension in Baldia Town. The SHC also summoned the DMC West chairperson and the public health engineering secretary to appear before the court for further proceedings.

The two-member bench, which included Justice KK Agha and Justice Muhammad Saleem Jessar, also questioned the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) about disconnecting illegal water connections in Malir, and the installation of water pipelines in the area.

The justices took the opportunity to remind the DMC that it would be found to be in contempt of court, if bills amounting to PKR 5.2 million were not cleared by the next hearing — with the next court session to take place on March 27.
