| Rawalpindi: RDA to make Rawalpindi beautiful, green, Source |
Rawalpindi
After a long time, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has
started development work in the Rawalpindi city, including carpeting of
Benazir Bhutto Road and Rashid Minhas Road.
RDA Director General Makeen Shahbaz told ‘The News’ that beautification
work in the city would be completed by June 15. Shahbaz, who also heads
the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), said that the Punjab
government is releasing funds for completion of projects.
“I have tasked the engineers and other staff to complete the beautification work till June 15,” he added.
He said that renovation work of BB Road has been started after a long
time and the department would try to fill all the ditches on the road
including Rashid Minhas Road before the deadline. He said that they are
planting saplings in the whole city to make it green adding labourers
are working day and night to complete the work.
Talking to ‘The News’ PML-N MNA Shakil Awan said that renovation work on
all other dilapidated roads in the city would be launched very soon.
“But work on Benazir Bhutto Road and Rashid Minhas Road would be
completed on priority,” he added.
He said that the city would be made green like Islamabad to create fresh and healthy environment.
According to PHA, millions of saplings would be planted in the whole
city, particularly at Liaquat Bagh, Shamsabad, Rawal Road and Benazir
Bhutto Road.
The residents of the city appreciated the renovation work on roads and
planting of saplings. Muhammad Zubair Khan, a resident of Raja Bazaar,
said that renovation work would enhance the beauty of the city and green
belts would help improve the environment. “Majority of people had to
go to Islamabad to enjoy greenery, but now we would enjoy freshness of
green belt in Rawalpindi City,” he said.
Aftab Ahmed, a resident of Waris Khan, said that the concerned
authorities should also take steps to improve the sewerage system of the
city to enhance the beauty of Rawalpindi. “People should cooperate
with the authorities to make Rawalpindi City beautiful like Islamabad,”
he added.
